April 2009 newsletter

April Newsletter

Well, we had the couple of boring weeks where everything goes really quiet and then all of a sudden you walk into the village one day and you actually see REAL people- lots of them….finally.

Not everything is open yet but we’re getting there, this time next week, everything will be open pretty much, so how much life is there you’re wondering well… I saw Unal from The Sarigerme restaurant/karaoke bar so I went and had a coffee with him; he will be open before this weekend. The Ed Hardy shop is now open and I wished he wasn’t when I asked a price on some boots- or rather my husband did. The Carmen/ LA Pizza now has back the proper chef from last year that can make a pizza and not burn it, I actually had chicken in there rather than  pizza for a change , I highly recommend it, it was gorgeous. A few of the other clothes shops are open, the Dolphin is getting there with all the stuff piled up and ready to be set out, further up Mr. Remo’s is having some refurbishing work done before they open and The Paradise up near the top is now open as well. The actual Sunday market is still quite small but I am sure come this Sunday it will be busier, and the by the end of the month the normal full size market.

Its now only about a week and half before all the First Choice reps from the Holiday Village arrive so the night life atmosphere will increase tenfold again, they know how to have a party!

In other news, there is so far one new shop but nothing is in it yet, so not sure what that will be being built just next to the Dolphin and Oblique mini-market. They are also working really hard (and fast) on some other building in the main street which looks like they may turn out to be apartments, just before you take the road down to the post office. We also now have two cash machines, both in working order.

The road that had all been smoothed out from the village to Akdeniz has been completely battered again and as you go past Akdeniz towards Fevziye, the trucks that are using this road to get to the building work on the new golf hotel (still not finished) have completely devastated that road now.

The last week has been really nice with the temperature hitting up to 30 degrees! But at the moment and for the last couple of days we have unfortunately had bad thunderstorms and rain on and off, but fingers crossed, come Wednesday, we are forecast for temperatures back into the 20’s and clear skies.

So until May……
